Suit up for Summer: Day 6

We end our Summer guide to finding the perfect swimsuit with the Petite body type. We realize dimensions can vary greatly with a petite frame (generally someone 5'4" or shorter), but there are some general rules of thumb that all you little ladies should follow!

Body Type: Petite. The trick is making your body look long and lean, and luckily for you showing some skin can help elongate your frame. Try halters or plunging neck lines for your swimsuit top paired with high cut bottoms to make your legs appear longer. Glamour Magazine suggests Swim'n Sport's 2 Bamboo separates if your busty and petite. We also like Gap's Essential Halter and Chain Mail Bikini which may work better if you are petite and thin. In terms of color, a swimsuit in darker shades and patterns will offer an elongating effect, but if you prefer a little pop stick with solid colored jewel tones such as the sapphire blue two piece below. And whatever hue you choose, be sure to stick with SMALL vertical patterns if any.

When accessorizing your swimsuit look, stay away from over-sized jewelry or sunglasses.  Choosing a bag for your petite frame is a bit tricky, but should follow the same principles as above. Unlike some of the other body shapes we have discussed, the key to finding a bag is picking one that is proportionate to your body size.  At the same time, aim for a bag that hits close to the leg, to help make yourself look long and lean. To achieve both goals, look for smaller bags that are also more structured. We think the Black and Tan Amber Clutch is a perfect match worn either as a wristlet, shoulder, or cross-body bag!

Now that we have you set to look your swimsuit best, don't forget the other swimming essentials to make your Summer a sweet success.  Sunscreen, shades, a brimming hat, and towel will help protect, while an icy cold cocktail will help get you cooled down and relaxed!

Happy swimming :)
